As a teenager in the 2000s I was mesmerized by acoustic blues records from guitarists like Brownie McGhee, Big Bill Broonzy, and Lead Belly.
I began collecting and learning music from many sources, including 78s, cylinders, and sheet music. This exploration broadened my interests far beyond mid-century American blues, to a worldwide tapestry of vernacular music.
In the late 2000s, I formed a trio called the Niagara String Band, performing at festivals, historical societies, wineries, breweries, and other venues throughout southern Ontario.
After the band dissolved in the mid-2010s, I shifted away from performance to focus on repertoire development and teaching.
Most recently, I formed a string duo with Bill Finch. Together we’ve arranged many rags, reels, waltzes, and mazurkas, and are performing around Niagara as Andrews & Finch in 2025–26.
